Anxiety Counselling in South West London

Anxiety Counselling

Anxiety is a common and normal feeling that everyone experiences at some point in their lives. However, when anxiety becomes excessive or prolonged, it can interfere with daily activities and negatively affect overall well-being. If you are struggling with anxiety, seeking professional help can make a big difference.

At my practice in South West London, I offer anxiety counselling to help individuals understand and manage their symptoms. I use various techniques, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), as well as psychodynamic and mindfulness-based interventions, to help individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviours contributing to their anxiety.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is what we feel when worried, tense or afraid – particularly about things that are about to happen or which we think could happen.

Anxiety is a natural human response when we feel that we are under threat. It can be experienced through our thoughts, feelings and physical sensations.

However, when a person regularly feels disproportionate anxiety levels, it might become chronic and can negatively impact their daily life.

How We Can Help

Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT)

Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of talking therapy that can help you understand the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that represent the vicious cycle of your anxiety. CBT can teach you techniques that will help you to break that cycle.

During therapy, I will work with you to identify your anxiety triggers, develop coping strategies and help you learn how to relax and manage your anxiety, so it does not interfere with your daily functioning. Everyone's experience of anxiety is unique, and I tailor my approach to meet each client's individual needs.

Psychodynamic approach

The psychodynamic approach to anxiety is based on the belief that underlying, unconscious conflicts cause anxiety. Working through those issues and helping you become more aware of them can make the anxiety less powerful and make you feel more in control.

Mindfulness-Based Interventions

Mindfulness-based interventions can help you learn to focus on the present moment and reduce worry about the future. Techniques such as deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation can help you manage physical anxiety symptoms.
